Block comments from someone on Instagram

Before you start

• Blocking someone from commenting is different from blocking their account.
• They can still view your photos and videos if your privacy settings allow it.
• New comments from that person will only be visible to them.
• Blocking someone from commenting does not remove their previous comments.

Steps on mobile

1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
2. Tap the menu icon.
3. Open Settings and activity if Instagram shows that menu.
4. Under How others can interact with you, tap Comments.
5. Open the option for blocking comments from specific people.
6. Search for the person you want to block from commenting.
7. Tap Block next to their name.

Steps on desktop

1. Open Instagram in your browser and log in.
2. Click More in the bottom left.
3. Click Settings.
4. Below How others can interact with you, click Comments.
5. Use the comments settings to manage who is blocked from commenting on your photos and videos.
6. To unblock someone from commenting, remove them from that list.

Common problems

You can only find the regular account block option.

Do not use the profile or comment Block option if you only want to stop comments. Open Comments settings and block the person from commenting there.

The person can still see my posts.

That is expected. Comment blocking only hides new comments from everyone except the commenter. Use account blocking or a private account if you need to limit post visibility.

Their old comments are still visible.

Instagram says blocking someone from commenting does not remove their previous comments. Delete old comments separately if needed.
